Respondus LockDown Browser Bypass: The Definitive 2026 Method

TL;DR

Respondus has patched VMs, second monitors, network blocking, and known screen-recorder process names. The only method still working in 2026 is a system-level AI overlay that's excluded from the OS screen-capture API.

Respondus has been patching bypass methods steadily since 2022. Every guide more than 18 months old recommends something that's now broken or actively flagged. This guide only covers what works against the current build.

Patched: VMs and emulators

VirtualBox, VMware, Parallels, and Hyper-V are all detected and refused. The exam quits before loading.

Patched: Second monitors

Multi-monitor setups are detected and disabled at start. Disconnecting the cable after start triggers an incident flag.

Patched: Network blocking

Respondus checks connectivity before unlocking the exam. Blocked telemetry endpoints cause the app to refuse to start.

Patched: Common screen recorders

OBS, QuickTime, ScreenFlow, Loom, and 30+ other common screen recorders are killed on launch. Renamed binaries are matched on signature, not just filename.

Still works: OS-level system overlays

Software that sits in the operating system's overlay layer — typically reserved for accessibility tools, system notifications, and certain media controls — is excluded from the screen-capture API on both macOS and Windows. Respondus reads from the same API every proctoring tool reads from, so it inherits the exclusion.

This is the category Lockdownify ships in. It isn't a screen recorder, a VM, or a network bypass — it's a system overlay, and the OS itself filters it out of every capture.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't Respondus just detect Lockdownify's process?

Because there's nothing about the process that flags as suspicious. Lockdownify doesn't read from the screen, doesn't record audio, doesn't open a network connection that pattern-matches a known cheating service. It's a chat client with a custom window position. Process scanners don't block chat clients.

Will Respondus eventually patch this?

They can't, at least not without breaking macOS and Windows accessibility features that millions of legitimate users depend on. The OS-level exclusion is a platform feature, not a Respondus configuration.

Will Lockdownify get me caught?

No. Lockdownify is filtered out of every screen-capture pipeline at the operating-system level — before a single pixel is ever encoded. LockDown Browser, Honorlock, Proctorio, Zoom, Teams, and Meet all read the same OS frame buffer, and Lockdownify is excluded from it. We re-test against every major proctoring tool weekly. If you ever do get flagged, we refund your subscription and reimburse the exam fee.

What platforms does Lockdownify support?

macOS 13 Ventura and later, and Windows 10 and 11. Both desktop apps ship today.

How much does it cost?

$40/month or $28/month if you pay annually (save 30%). One plan unlocks every model — Claude Opus 4.7, GPT-5, and Gemini 3.1 Pro — unlimited questions, unlimited screenshots, and the 100% bypass guarantee. Cancel anytime.
